FDOTR interview with Swiffa

This interview was few months in the making. I met Swiffa and Pha Thep Henom thru Tumblr by accident, their CMSC tumblr has songs of their artist roster. Hearing "Hometown Hero" was and still is such a joy cause of how awesome the beginning classical beat is and then you hear the beast that is Swiffa just going in on this Pha production. Swiffa is very diverse as you will see him explaining his style on this interview, but you could hear it yourself by going to www.helloswiffa.com and download his mixtapes, or head to youtube to see his videos, specially his freestyle of Kanye and Jay Z's "Otis" (which is a hard beat to freestyle cause that beat was handcrafted for jay and ye)

Swiffa just came out of the Texas music festival SXSW and the recognition he got there, can only mean one thing for San Antonio's hometown hero, that the CMSC takeover is being skillfully planned out and you should be ready.

FDOTR: How was filming the hometown hero video?
Swiffa: I’ve probably had the most fun doing that video so far, we did some of the film during new years. Fireworks, liquor, greenery burning, it was on and I was wasted afterwards, so…wasted [laughs]. I’m glad that song was made along with the video, it was an honor to put a twist to a classic sample in Texas.

FDOTR:. How was the experience of performing SXSW?
Swiffa: It was one to remember. Being there for the first time and experiencing it, especially to perform during that huge, once a year event convinced me…I’m gonna do this shit til I die

FDOTR: Can you tell us your flow process?
Swiffa: I have to have an automatic connection to the beat, to me those are the ones that come out the best because the best ideas just come to you, and it’s all natural but at the same time you gotta know when gold is gold & when crap is crap, just saying.

FDOTR: How is the San Antonio hip hop scene?
Swiffa: It’s growing man, people in the city are starting to latch on to what we have to offer as representatives of hip hop in our area. San Antonio will eventually stand up and say “we have a sound & we’re fucking proud of it”

FDOTR:  Big Sean was the first major artist you opened up for?
Swiffa: Yes it was, last year in December in my hometown, fucking venue was packed. They showed a lot of love to me and Sean, incredible ass night, can’t wait when I’m packing out spots myself, I’M GONNA KILL EM’ ALL! [laughs]

FDOTR: When you get together with Melat and Killa Dro, you guys flow so well together. How long have you guys known each other?
Swiffa: Thanks bro! Lets me know we’re doing something right haha. I’ve known the bearded monster named Killa for 3 years and the beautiful Melat for 2 years. I’m glad I have such talented people on my team; I don’t to worry about shit.

FDOTR: What does Swiffa have to offer to Hip Hop?
Swiffa: Myself, people like it when you’re original, music is freedom and musically I do what the fuck I want & the lyrics are always there to quote to your friends

FDOTR:  What other genres of music do you listen to?
Swiffa: I listen to all types of music man, rock, country, blues, soul, dubstep I love that dubstep, symphonies, cultural, all types man, just because you’re a rapper doesn’t mean you have to listen to ONLY rap music.

FDOTR; Who is your dream artist you would love to work with?
Swiffa: Well I just don’t have one, I have a couple: 50 Cent, I wish I could’ve worked with Pimp C & Aaliyah, Adele, Kanye, Kid Cudi, Jay-Z, and fucking Lady Gaga, she’s one of a kind, I don’t care what anyone says…she is.

FDOTR; You just released a sick Mixtape, what is your next upcoming project?
Swiffa: Yes I did, my mini project ‘LA3S’ available for FREE on helloswiffa.com but my next dope shit, I don’t hqve a name for it yet but you’ll definitely be the first to know the name when I have it, “Hometown Hero” will surely be on it
FDOTR's random question: Swiffa with a back orchestra, would you go for that if the opportunity came across?
Swiffa: Fuck yeah, make my show even more epic, that’s the way I want my shows when my name has risen to it’s ability to afford that kind of background support [laughs]…but it will
